1.5 L

Second semester of law school has begun. We're at our brand new facilities and I have to say, it's breathtaking. Our school is state of the art and while a bunch of construction men are still milling around and they've yet to put trashcans in the classrooms (oh and the plastic is still on some of the chairs) it seems to be a promising situation.

I hate that I don't have much time for blogging, for instance now, I am about to go read 78 pages about strict liability. Sometimes I feel the need to just write. About everything, or nothing. Just write. I did that so much when I first moved away from home and went to college. I'd write letters to people, or to no one at all. I'd write stories or rants. I'd write anything. Now all I write are briefs and memos. So someday I hope to get back there. Over winter break I read...for PLEASURE! *GASP!* Mostly because my mom bought me a Kindle. Which I LURVE! I soaked up about 5 books in a 5 week period. They were my crack. And now, it's back to the not-good stuff.

Corbin started the fire academy today. When I hugged him goodbye I started crying and hugged him longer to let the tears go away before we pulled apart. I felt so weird for crying, and so vulnerable should he know why. See, sometimes he drives me BONKERS. Seriously, I am going gray...or I would be if I ever stopped dying my hair. But he is so kind, and so wonderful, and I am so madly in love with him. He is my hero. And to know he is pursuing his dream, and so close to accomplishing it, fills me with more pride than I can express. Firefighting isn't something he fell into, it isn't something he is doing because he doesn't know what else to do, it isn't something he takes lightly. It's been his dream since as far back as he can remember. And that, to me, is beautiful. So today when he took his first step (literally) in the last leg of his journey to getting there, I cried. I also cried because our whole lives flashed before my eyes. The next 50-70 years...the holidays he will miss, the tragedy he'll see, the danger he'll face, the nights I'll spend alone. It kills me every day when he leaves because he doesn't come home at night. He stays away 24 sometimes 48 hours. And I miss him so much. Granted sometimes it's a much needed reprieve, but I still miss him. And although he'll be missing so much for so many years, the fact that he genuinely loves what he will be doing is so worth it to me. The fact that I can stand next to him and know he saves lives, it's worth it. So I guess I cried for a lot of reasons today.
